Drinking Green Smoothies 4 Years Later

Why I started?

My smoothies schedule purpose, is to provide myself with more energy at work, and to aid with my fitness regime. Just like others out there, I also have a desire to perform mentally and physically in an optimal manner; green smoothies are apart of my ritual to achieve these goals.

🥬 Benefits of drinking smoothies

⚡️Increased Energy

The reason why green smoothies provide energy, is that they provide healthy calories that your body can convert to energy. The healthy components of a green smoothie consists of complex carbohydrate, nutritious fats and healthy proteins, which I recommend can be supplemented with water to also improve hydration, as this also assists energy levels.

🧠 Brain Power Boost

I can contest that both mental clarity and focus has increased from including green smoothies into my schedule, and there is a reason for this… within the leafy greens consumed there are antioxidants carotenoids, B-vitamins and folic acid, which are a part of boosting overall brain health.

🦠 Enhanced Immune System

In general I do not fall to illness often and if I do catch something, which seems to be only once year, I can shake it off within a week. The science behind why smoothies are a natural immune system boosters, is that green smoothies are rich in chlorophyll, which some researchers have found correlative evidence in increasing the immune system performance.

⚖️ Weight Loss

Drinking vegetables and fruits, also means I am not snacking, as I found this can make me feel fuller for longer and usually very low on calories. However, a side note, smoothies can become more calorific if the vegetable to fruit ratio is not balanced, as fruits can be high in sugar, which can defeat the purpose of losing weight. An easy approach I have found to get this correct, is to create smoothies with 80% veg and 20% fruits ratio.

☺️ Mood Improvements, Anti-Depressant, Reduces Memory Loss

Just by incorporating vegetables into our smoothies. This can help improve moods, reduce memory loss and even act as an natural antidepressant due to the folate contained in the greens we ingest.

💩 Assists Digestion

Within green smoothies there can be a lot fibre (especially if your adding nuts!), which can result in maintaining a healthy colon and keeping your bowels functional, therefore avoiding unwanted constipation.

🤔 My Green Smoothie Tips

All the benefits above are real, and I always highly recommend everyone to try green smoothies.

Generally, the most common resistance I find is either “having the time” to make them or some type of taste phobia as greens have a bad rep for not tasting great.

These are the suggestions I have to mitigate these concerns:

  • Prepare a smoothie or multiple smoothies the night before
  • Make smoothies with 80% veg 20% fruit
  • The more you drink smoothies, the more you taste buds adapt. Therefore, your able to drink them with ease.
  • Invest in a powerful smoothie blender, having lumps is never easy to ingest
